L.L.A.M.A. (Leaping Llamas and Marching Alpacas) 4-H Club

Welcome to the L.L.A.M.A. (Leaping Llamas and Marching Alpacas) 4-H Club! While we have only been an active chartered club since October of 2009, 4-H llama projects are nothing new to Montana. The reintroducing of llamas in the Flathead County 4-H program began about four years ago with only three youth who were including llamas in their project list. By 2009 we kicked off our official chartered year with 10 members. Our numbers have continued to grow and we are excited to have 13 members to date!

In the past two years the L.L.A.M.A. 4-H Club has hosted a llama showmanship and walking fiber competition, adopted new project curriculum, participated in five parades yearly and other outdoor community gatherings in the valley, shared llama education and 4-H program benefits with various students at local schools, successfully increased attendance and expanded the competition division at the Northwest Montana Fair including an open youth section, hosted a family in need for Thanksgiving and participated in several other community service events.

One of our greatest accomplishments has been witnessing the dedication and involvement of local community members, who share a genuine interest in llamas/alpacas, by continuing to support the L.L.A.M.A. Club Members, as well as our Flathead County 4-H Program. The generous donations and award sponsorships are just the beginning. Only in Montana will we find the kind of community who is willing to provide overwhelming contributions that are truly needed to promote llama education. Through “hands on” ranch tours, training, instruction, and community supported resources our members will continue to Learn By Doing!

Currently we are actively preparing a club scholarship fund and youth enhancement fund to inspire members to continue on with learning opportunities for future growth by promoting self worth through accomplishments and rewards. We are also preparing to host the first International Lama Registry sanctioned show to be held in Kalispell in 2012! This is a huge opportunity for 4-H members all across Montana, and nearby states, to participate in an international show, as well as compete on a professional level. Participants would normally have to travel great distances to attend an event of this caliber.

The L.L.A.M.A. 4-H Club is proud to be a part of the Flathead County 4-H Program in the great State of Montana. We sincerely appreciate all of the many opportunities to meet new challenges, discover self worth, empower others through teamwork, and set and attain goals. We are learning to be active community members through service projects and are embracing togetherness. We are blessed to be a part of the wonderful program 4-H offers and are preparing for the future through scholarship and educational opportunities so as adults we can continue Montana 4-H tradition To Make The Best Better!
